Does anyone still sign up for the envelope stuffing job? With the economy being what it is in the early part of the second decade of this century scams abound for survival after job loss. The oldest scam in the book is envelope stuffing. It’s hard to believe, but this one is still in existence although not nearly as prevalent as it used to be. Companies, if you want to call them that, would promise you a reasonable wage sometimes even well just from stuffing envelopes in your home.

The idea was you stuff envelopes in your spare time and get paid for. But the reality was you send off for kit, but cost money of course, and in return you get the brochures to send to a list of people that might also sign up for this sort of job. Theoretically, you would get paid for each person that signs up to send out more of the brochures. If it’s not a pyramid scheme I don’t know what it’s.

One needs to be especially careful, as feeling desperation will sometimes cloud better judgment. The old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is certainly applies to this situation. If you find yourself out of work, having lost a job or underemployed probably the best thing you could do beyond looking for additional employment is to try to figure out how you can serve those in your community.

Many times people will have the skill that could be marketed to their friends and neighbors and others in the area at a discounted rate because they can operate without all the overhead of the normal company. For instance if you’re especially good with computers, you could offer classes on how to use a particular piece of software. If you’re especially good painter, maybe you could offer that service as a side job.

One just needs to get a little bit creative and identify what skills sets they possess and turn those skill sets into at the very least a part-time income. Networking with people in your neighborhood or your community still works even in this age of technology. People need services and would prefer to deal with people they know and trust and that can work to your advantage.

Often times, the path to new sources of income starts with the positive attitude and can be achieved through skills and knowledge you already possess. Do your best to keep your mind moving in a positive direction and focus on solutions as opposed to problems. Jobs are available, just sometimes those jobs are not the kind that are customary and the method by which you get them also can come via an unconventional way. People often need help, you just need to put yourself in the path of the people that do need your skills, and employment might not be such a big issue after all.

San Luis Obispo, California was written up by several publications last fall as the happiest place in America. In my mind it should just be called the best places to live and leave it at that. There has been a lot of follow up interest all the way to The Opera show in January. There definitely is a lot of interest as people want to be happy and to find happiness especially in these trying times.

There was an author Dan Buettner that wrote about the San Luis Obispo in his book on happiest place in America and the residents would absolutely agree. Things like family, finances, social life, work and their community all play a vital role in making this place live up to its Disney like billing.

The residents even go so far as to talk about the fact that they spend money on experiences and not on stuff so much. That at least for them seems to be a key to making it all happen in San Luis Obispo, California.

Of course just being in southern California by itself can make you in a better mood. The weather by itself seems to raise your serotonin but being in a place as relaxed and focused on good vibes like San Luis Obispo, California will definitely make it all better.

My first experience in San Luis Obispo was an amazing experience that started just driving down the street. It was quite and quant. No one was in a real hurry and the traffic was really light. The sun was bright, (like it is most of the time) the temperature was a perfect 76 degrees and this was in February so what could most any one really ask for? This would by itself lend one to think that you were in paradise.

Add to these qualities the fact that most of the population is educated and the crime rate is low, the income level is high and you can start to get the picture of why San Luis Obispo: happiest place in America… maybe. Even if it is not the cheapest place to live.

I had some really scary news the other day as a friend had a scare with colon cancer and because of that it’s certainly been in the forefront of my mind lately. It’s one of those things that you generally don’t think about a whole lot but when someone close to you is visited by cancer you certainly have a moment of pause. And reflect on those things that might cause a long-term problems with your health.

It certainly would be an advantage to recognize colon cancer early symptoms in yourself and those close to you so that you could keep an eye on your colon health even if you were not in a high risk category. Colon Cancer is one of those things in life that we generally don’t see and spend very little time thinking about but that deserves far more attention than it gets. I certainly wish I had had a chance to be on the lookout for those things that would tell my friend he might have had a problem.

I know as for me and my family we certainly are more aware today than we were six months ago about the possibility of the first signs of colon cancer. As a matter of fact I think I will visit my doctor and have him or her explain more fully the signs and symptoms of colon cancer. That way I can be on the lookout for anything unusual and then have it checked out immediately. You know that old saying “better safe than sorry”.

Several years ago I watched my father go through a long and drawn out battle with cancer, it was not colon cancer but in many ways I think there are many similarities between the different kinds of cancers and the experiences that each of the patients have. Whenever I think of him and the experience that we went through for two years while he battled the cancer, I think I wish I had been better prepared and had a better understanding so that we could have better dealt with the situation. Just like my friend, if he had known risk factors for colon cancer, he would have probably been in a different situation today.

Unfortunately for him and my father as well, that was not the case. And in my father’s situation it did not end well. My advice to you would be to systematically get yourself educated as much as you can about colon cancer early symptoms, live a lifestyle that is healthy and be proactive and aggressive with preventative measures.

Does anyone besides me have troubles with their kids? It seems to never end. Its one thing right after another and unfortunately mine are 13 and 14 years old so I’m afraid this has just begun. I mean we’ve all heard about the teenage years and obviously those of us that are adults have gone through them but I have never experienced anything so disheartening as this.

I remember all my mothers friends talking about their teenage kids when I was growing up but never did I think that I behaved in such a way as my kids do on a regular basis. It’s not that they’re bad kids, not at all they’re really good. The thing I have trouble with at least for me has to do with responsibility. It seems so obvious to me that it’s time for them to take responsibility.

I mean my son for instance, has had the chore of taking out the trash for seven years. We started training him as a child when we lived in an apartment. But now even as a 13-year-old teenager he has to be reminded on a daily basis to take out the trash and not only that but to take out all the trash. What I mean is, he will get the kitchen trash and leave the bathroom trash. Am I missing something here? Why would he not remember to get all the trash?

And then there’s my daughter she’s 14 and she’s a good girl. Her one and only chore is laundry she is to do two loads five days a week as her contribution to the family. But invariably she only gets one load done. Again, help me understand how hard can it be to do to loads of laundry it’s not like we’re going to the stream with a washboard.

So there is my dilemma, my drama for the week. I just don’t know what to do with these kids. Maybe I should be happy I mean it’s not like they’re running in the streets and taking drugs. They even go to church and participate in all the activities so for that I’m very happy but there’s this one sticking point. Responsibility! Why don’t my children want to take responsibility?

Probably when I’m another 10 years older and they are out on their own I’ll have some more answers but for the next 10 years I suppose I’m going to struggle with the age-old dilemma of having teenagers.

Two weeks into my friends tummy tuck post op recovery she told me that she wasn’t sure she would do it again. If there’s one thing that talking with my friends and reading online has told me it’s that people who have cosmetic surgery or maybe more importantly people who have tummy tucks are not fully aware of the discomfort that they are embarking on.

It’s not the intensity that seems to be the driving force behind the temporary reversal in attitude, it seems to be the nearly unending nature of the pain. I think the problem stems from the fact that many people may not fully realize the extent to which a tummy tuck is invasive to the body. A persons whole torso is invaded and large portions are removed including in some cases the tightening of major mid-frame muscles.

Doctors can do much to alleviate the pain and discomfort through several means at their disposal. Of course pain relief medication is always an option, compression garments can help to some degree and now some doctors are even prescribing pain pumps similar to those used by patients with major diseases like cancer.

These pumps allow the patient to control how much medication is administered at any given moment depending on the pain they feel. They can be very effective for those who have had major surgery even if it’s cosmetic surgery. Apart from the financial consideration of a tummy tuck the avoidance of pain is probably the second largest reason people choose not to have the surgery.

Think about it, if money was not the issue and pain was not the issue the risk reward ratio tilts heavily in favor of having the surgery. Once doctors figure out how to eliminate the pain of tummy tuck post op they will have gone a long way in opening up new markets for their surgical product.

In my humble opinion the pain should not be the determining factor for whether or not to pursue a tummy tuck. There are far more important factors to be considered and weighed when the decision has to be made. My advice would be to seek multiple professional opinions about your individual situation and find out what they have to say about tummy tuck post op recovery in the conversation.

In way of disclaimer, I want to make it clear I am not a medical doctor nor have I had medical training and the advice or recommendations in this post should in no way be used in lieu of competent medical advice. Please consult your trusted medical provider for the latest and most accurate information about tummy tuck post op recovery and procedure.

Finding things to write about that I think you as my potential readers, might want to read or at least be interested enough to look at the title can be a tough almost full time job.

I often find inspiration from the everyday common things that happen to me. For instance today my wife had taken the day off work and was sick in bed and I went out to service a client. On the way home I stopped and did some grocery shopping since I knew it may be a while before she could go again.

To my surprise, I got home and my wife is unloading the car of groceries. She knew I was busy and we really needed some things so she drug herself out of bed and went to the store.

So here we are both spent about $100 and got some of the same food. We have enough hamburger to feed an army now. I had to freeze some of it. There is no way we could eat it fast enough to use it up. I am 48 years old and have been married for approximately 22 years of my life (cumulative, but that is another story) and that has never happened to me. Now there is a story.

Have you ever thought that you really wanted to do what was right even when no one was looking. Just because it was the right thing to do. Think about that for a minute. No more gaming the system for your benifit. No more doing it just because you think you can get away with it and no one will know. Just tell the truth and do the right thing. What a different way to live.

I want to structure my life so that I can live that way. It is hard, or at least it has been hard for me up to this point. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a cumpulsive lier of a theif or anything like that but sometimes I admit it is just easier to take a shortcut. But I have been thinking a lot about it lately and it just doesn’t feel right to do so. It feels better to do the right thing no matter how tired I am or what it costs or even when no one knows.

Now just so I don’t bring bad bragging karma on myself I have not really been tested with this… I mean there have been no hot Latin ladies throwing themselves at me (my ultimate test) but just a feeling I have been having lately that I wanted to write about.

In the same vein as the last post about the total coolness of the things you can do online and the security measures that are in place I found out something else about PayP*l today that I didn’t know. If i am not careful I may become a PayP*l evangelist but I promise not to give an alter call at the end of each PP sermon… but I digress.

PP has a download that you can get that will allow you to put in your payment info like you shipping address and mailing address and then the really cool part they will generate you a one time use Mastercard number so you can pay for stuff online with your PP account even if the merchant does not take PP. Is that cool or what? So if you have some money that you made selling stuff online and now you have a need to buy some stuff online but they don’t take PP you can still do it. Just place your order like always but then when you get to the payment part PP will generate you a Mastercard number and expiration date and even the code on the back of the imaginary card for you to use one time on that site to place that order.

I don’t know about you but I am jazzed by my new discovery. I think it is time to go shopping…

OMG, it takes a bit to get used to online security! I was doing some unusual business on PayP*l today and I had to jump through a bunch of hoops. First I had to talk to customer service and once we figured out what I was doing with them, they emailed me a form to fill out and sign. Then I had to fax it back as it is part of their security not to accept an email with the document so i could not scan it and attach it to the return email.

So I had to print the email out, fill out the form, scan it into my computer along with a scan of my drivers lic and my social security card. I combined the two scans into one pdf that i could fax with a online service and then send it. In all it took me about 20 minutes after I finished with them on the phone. At first I was a little miffed that it took so much to accomplish all this and then I got to thinking what a great thing it was for me to be setting here in my home and to be able to accomplish all this. I literally could be anywhere in the world right now and get it done. If I were in Spain and needed to do this at my local bank in California, I would be screwed probably but with less time than it would take me to drive to the bank I have done it all from where ever I am. That is fantastic!
